The police here registered a case under Section 176 (death in police custody) of the CrPC after a man died while he was being shifted to hospital.

Lakshmaiah (35) was in police custody in connection with the murder of a woman in his village.

The police claimed that the accused was being taken to hospital after he attempted suicide in the police station.

However, after relatives of Lakshmaiah complained of custodial death a case was registered and four police personnel suspended.

According to the police, Lakshmaiah and Pochaiah of Yellaram village in Sadashivapet mandal were suspects in a woman’s murder committed 10 days ago.

The Pulkal police reportedly brought Lakshmaiah from Maharashtra, where he was hiding and interrogated him.
