Creation of new districts sought

November 18, 2011 11:59 am | Updated 11:59 am IST - KURNOOL:

Rayalaseema Janata Party president K. Satyanarayana Gupta has urged the government to create new districts in Rayalaseema for the convenience of administration.

In a statement on Thursday, he said some of the districts in Rayalaseema such as Kurnool, Kadapa, Chittoor, and Anantapur had become too large to administer while the issues required greater focus of senior bureaucrats.

He said Nandyal could be carved out in Kurnool, Proddatur in YSR Kadapa, Tirupati in Chitoor and Hindupur in Anantapur district. Creation of new districts was equally important as the State was fighting for bifurcation. In the wake of leaders of some of the regions turning vocal, even the leadership in Rayalaseema should take up the issue of backwardness of Rayalaseema with the Prime Minister and Central leadership.

In fact, any new proposal like bifurcation of the State should begin with a debate on the backwardness of Rayalaseema. If the leadership of the region failed in highlighting the problems of the region, the people would never pardon the political leadership in future, he remarked.
