CPI (M) State Secretary P. Madhu said his party would support Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s padayatra and welcome Jana Sena Party’s programmes on people’s issues.
He questioned the government’s silence on the attacks on Dalits and accused it of scuttling the democratic voices in the name of maintaining law and order. Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Mr. Madhu said the government kept quiet as the Dalits were discriminated against and attacked at Garagaparru (West Godavari district), Devarapalli (Prakasam), Pachikapallam (Chittoor) and some other places.
If the government fails to do justice to the aggrieved, the CPI (M) would organise ‘Chalo Garagaparru’ protest on July 28, he warned and pledged his support to former MP G.V. Harsha Kumar’s programme at Garagaparru on July 14. Mr. Madhu said he crackdown on Dalits at Bhimavaram, during which 1,000 protestors were arrested, showed the government’s attitude to the downtrodden sections.
He expressed regret that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was oblivious to the discrimination going on for many decades at Pachikapallam which was in his (CM’s) home district.
