The CPI(M) will review its political line at the forthcoming national meet in the wake of changing political scenario and shrinking space for the Left, party general secretary Prakash Karat has said.

Addressing the centenary function of veteran leader of the party Makineni Basavapunnaiah here on Thursday, he said for the first time right wing BJP secured the absolute majority in the general elections and formed the government. It was disturbing that the party was being supported aggressively by the big business houses and corporate sector.

He pointed out that the rich who benefited from the bonanza dished out by Narendra Modi in Gujarat brought him on to the national stage for a bigger windfall.

He pointed out that core ideology of BJP which revolved around Hindutva and pro-rich was harmful to the interests of the masses of the country.

He underscored the need for the CPI (M) overcoming its weakness and offering a platform that drew people of all sections. The unity among the Left parties was pivotal for stopping the onslaught of the BJP. The Left alliance should fight for social justice and alternative policies and defend the rights of the people.

Mr. Karat observed that there was no marked difference between the policies of the Congress and the BJP as both vied with each other to serve the interests of the rich.

He said communalism, be it Hinduism, Islam or any religion, should not be spared which devoured the vitals of a nation.

He alleged that the BJP was the political organ of the RSS which set the political agenda and the move for abrogation of Article 370 was a pointer to this.

Referring to the frequent utterances of the Prime Minister for bitter medicine he was going to serve, he feared people would be squeezed more for money through price rise.

He said the party would oppose privatization of banks, increased FDI into defence sector and disinvestment of public sector companies.

State secretary P. Madhu, National Committee member M.A Gafoor, T. Shadrak, district secretary K. Prabhakar Reddy and others were present.
