CPI(M) opposes proposed power tariff hike

Government should bear the burden as a gift to people

May 11, 2014 10:32 am | Updated 10:32 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has deplored the proposal of steep hike in power tariffs and asked authorities to desist from burdening the common man further.

CPI (M) Telangana secretary T. Veerabhadram said in a press release that power utilities were gearing up to impose a huge burden of Rs. 9,320 crore on the people once the government makes its stand clear on the subsidy it would provide to them. Since new governments will take over the reins in the new States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh shortly, they should consider bearing the entire burden.

“The decision to bear the total burden without passing it on to consumers would be a befitting gift to the people,” he said.
