CPI(M) backs Karim

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The CPI(M) State secretariat has rejected the allegations against former Industries Minister Elamaram Karim in connection with the corruption scandal at the public sector Malabar Cements Limited.

In a statement here on Thursday, the CPI(M) secretariat said there was no basis for the allegation that Mr. Karim was involved in the corrupt deals at the company and that there was no reference to Mr. Karim in the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation as an accused.

The allegations were politically motivated, it said.

Releasing the resolution to the media here on Thursday, CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan wanted to know how Sundarmoorthy, based on whose Section 164 statement before a magistrate three years ago the current controversy had been raked up, had become an approver after being originally listed as one of the accused.
