CPI protests tardy water supply in Kadapa

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KADAPA:

CPI activists, led by party district secretary G. Easwaraiah, on Monday staged a dharna in front of Kadapa Collectorate by carrying empty plastic pitchers on their heads deploring the “haphazard” drinking water supply in Kadapa.

“People are languishing due to drinking water scarcity during summer,” Mr. Easwaraiah said, adding that Gandi, Lingampalli, Bugga and Ramannapalli water works had dried up before the onset of summer. Water released to Pennar from Kundu through the Alaganur balancing reservoir in Kurnool district is yet to reach the Gandi water works from the Adinimmayapalle anicut even after a week of the release. Meanwhile, the flow of water from the Alaganur balancing reservoir has come down, he said.

The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government had laid the foundation stone for the Somasila backwater pumping scheme to cater to the needs of Kadapa, Proddatur, Kopparthi industrial centre, Yogi Vemana University, IIIT and Lepakshi Knowledge City and had released Rs. 25 crore.
