The CPI (M) State secretary B. V. Raghavulu urged the agitating employees and others to end the ongoing strike against the move to bifurcate the State in view of the hardships being faced by the people.
Speaking at a debate held at the Lalita Kala Parishad in Anantapur on Thursday, Mr. Raghavulu said: “The movement would lose its popular base if schools are kept closed indefinitely as the parents of students would wish that an academic year is not lost. Besides, most students who would lose the year would be those in the government schools and mostly poor,” he said.
“Even if the State remains united, what would be the fate of APSRTC? Who would bring it out of the losses?”, Mr. Raghavulu sought to know even as he appealed to the RTC employees to call off their strike.
Stating that the CPI (M) had been a votary of a United Andhra Pradesh and continued to be so, he suggested that the agitating public ensure that the movement does not turn into political platforms.
“Ask those politicians who come to you or are invited by you to clearly spell their stand and that of their party’s before they choose to address you. They ought to first fight with their respective leadership to take a decision to support Samaikyandhra,” Mr. Raghavulu said, even as he took a potshot at the CPI for its pro-Telangana stand.
