CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna on Friday termed the Nava Nirmana Deeksha of the TDP as farcical.

Addressing the media in the party office here, he urged the government to press for fulfilment of the promises made in the A.P. Reorganisation Act. He disputed the government’s claims of development of the State in the last three years.

The government sought a package of ₹24,350 crore for the development of backward districts, including four in Rayalaseema and three in north coastal Andhra, but the Centre washed its hands off by releasing ₹50 crore each to the seven districts, Mr. Ramakrishna said. It stopped further release of funds for the backward districts and no one knew how ₹350 crore had been spent, he said.

Centre’s “failure”

The Centre failed to keep its promises to establish a steel plant in Kadapa, railway zone in Visakhapatnam, port in Prakasam district, funds for Capital and to compensate for fiscal deficit, but Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was silent, he remarked.

Mr. Naidu could not pressurise the Centre for the Special Category Status and was content with a special package.

The CPI leader said no efforts were being made to equitably distribute river water, properties, power, etc. between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana before the time frame of June 1, 2017, Mr. Ramakrishna asserted. The 96-hour protests by the Special Category Status Sadhana Samiti was foiled by arresting professors, women and student leaders, he said.

The Chief Minister was answerable to the people on the issues, he added.
