CPI demands all-party meet on capital

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ONGOLE:

Strongly opposing the State Capital Region Development Authority’s call to farmers not to go for a second crop this year, Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K. Ramakrishna on Friday urged the government to convene an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus on issues pertaining to land acquisition for building the capital.

He added that the government should restrict land acquisition to wastelands on which multiple crops were being raised.

“The capital should be restricted to a smaller area by acquiring land only from those farmers who have volunteered to part with their land,” he said, adding that there was no need to acquire more than 30,000 acres for the purpose.
