The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday announced separate councils for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with former legislators -- Chada Venkat Reddy and K. Ramakrishna -- as party secretaries respectively.

The new councils have been announced at the conclusion of three-day State council meeting of the existing unit. The meeting was chaired by outgoing secretary for combined AP council K. Narayana.

The CPI Telangana State council elected Mr. Venkat Reddy as its secretary and Palla Venkat Reddy and Siddi Venkateshwaralu as deputy secretaries. Similarly, the AP State council elected Mr. Ramakrishna as secretary and Muppalla Nageswara Rao and J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy (Nani) as deputy secretaries.

General secretary of the party Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy participated in the meeting. Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Narayana said the new councils would strengthen the party in the two States by addressing the problems and shortcomings. Stating that his tenure as State secretary was very difficult, Dr. Narayana said the national council meet of the party to be held on May 25 would provide clarity on his future role in the party.
