Court stays arrest of Cong. candidate

Justice Nuty Ramamohana Rao of the High Court on Tuesday restrained the police from arresting .K. Rajgopal Reddy who is contesting on the congress ticket from the Pulivendula Assembly constituency, till May 16.

The judge was passing these interim orders in a writ petition filed by K. Rajgopal Reddy and others. They complained that a case under SC ST ( Prevention of Atrocities) Act, was foisted and the police were preparing to arrest them. They contended that the case was registered with the election in mind. The judge made it clear that the investigation in the case would not be stopped. He said that in view of election, the arrest can be stayed only for limited period. The case will come up for hearing in the second week of June. – Legal Correspondent
