A court on Monday turned down the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to lodge Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his auditor V. Vijay Sai Reddy in separate jails as they could hatch further conspiracies if they continued to be detained in the Chanchalguda central jail here.
Rejecting a memo filed by the investigating agency, the judge observed that detention of the accused in any prison was the job of the jailor on the orders passed by the court. In any case, the authorities of Chanchalguda jail had intimated to the court that Jagan and Vijay Sai Reddy were kept in separate special category enclosures that barred access to each other. They were staying apart by five rooms. The court did not find favour with the contention of CBI that the rights of the accused would not be affected by keeping them in separate jails.
It went by the argument of the defence that Vijay Sai Reddy used to meet Jagan when the former was out on bail but the CBI did not make an issue out of it. There was no complaint that Vijay Sai Reddy tried to tamper with evidence till he was sent back to jail recently on cancellation of bail.
The court noted the defence counsel Sushil Kumar’s argument that the move was preconceived and aimed to harass his clients.
