Agitating contract workers of the Kurnool general hospital staged a demonstration with half-tonsured heads at the Collectorate here on Friday demanding minimum wages, earned leave, PF, ESI and leaves on national holidays.

Contract workers Dasarath, Anji and Krupanandam tonsured a part of their head and protested on their demands under the aegis of AITUC.

AITUC district president P. Sunkaiah, secretary S. Muneppa, vice-president S. Nagi Reddy, city secretary P. Ramakrishna and secretary Manohar Manikyam demanded action against the A1 contract agency which was allegedly not paying them minimum wages.

Officials blamed

The officials of labour department and Kurnool general hospital were lax in taking appropriate action though the contract workers had been agitating for 19 days, they said. AITUC leaders S. Nagaraju, Jayaraju, Building Construction Workers’ Union leaders S.A. Chinna Rehman and Nallanna and auto union leaders Ramana and Yesu took part.
