Congress, YSRCP working against Polavaram: CM

Naidu takes up pending issues with the Centre

July 26, 2017 01:07 am | Updated 01:07 am IST - VIJAYAWADA

Close on the heels of Congress Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao urging the Centre to take over the construction of Polavaram project, Chief Minister N. Chandrbabu Naidu came down heavily on the Congress and the YSR Congress accusing them of working against the project and the interests of the State.

Mr. Naidu was in New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday. He met Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Dharmendra Pradhan, Harshavardhan, Narendra Singh Tomar and others, and urged them to expedite the process and resolve pending issues relating to the bifurcation Act.

Later speaking to reporters, Mr. Naidu said the Congress and the YSRC were trying to put a spoke in the wheel by urging the Centre to take over the project. Unless special attention was paid by the State, early completion of Polavaram project would not be possible, and it would be among the 21 national projects that were still under construction, he said.

Mr. Naidu urged the Finance Minister to release Polavaram project funds.

The Chief Minister urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take necessary steps to amend the Constitution and facilitate enhancing the number of Assembly seats in A.P. Two Bills relating to tribal and Central universities, which were promised to AP, were yet to be piloted. The issue was brought to the notice of Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. Also, setting up of the petroleum corridor near Kakinada was discussed with Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
