Congress wins Kodumur MPP post unopposed

TDP, YSRC did not field candidates

An MPTC member of Congress B. Raghunatha Reddy was unanimously elected mandal parishad president of Kodumur in Kurnool district on Thursday.

Kurnool Revenue Divisional Officer Hussain Saheb and election officer Adaiah conducted the election for filling the Kodumur MPP post which fell vacant due to the recent death of MPP Vamsidhar Reddy owing to ill health.

The Telugu Desam Party did not contest the election and its six MPTC members abstained from voting. The YSR Congress, which has five MPTC members, too did not contest. Out of 19 MPTC members in Kodumur, 13 attended, including six of Congress, five of YSRCP and two independents.

The RDO declared Mr. Raghunatha Reddy elected unopposed as he was the lone candidate. Later, he was sworn in. The Congressmen took out a victory procession in Kodumur.

A.P. Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy congratulated Mr. Raghunatha Reddy and lauded former Union Minister Kotla Jayasuryaprakash Reddy for taking the initiative to ensure the victory of the Congress member.
