BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Sunday expressed doubts if the Congress would deliver Telangana State and said its motives in tabling the Bill in Parliament before elections were suspect.
Accusing the Congress of indulging in vote-bank politics on the Telangana issue, he said it had divided the people instead of achieving the bifurcation of the State. Congress could have created an amicable atmosphere had it been genuinely interested in the issue. Had the UPA government implemented the principles followed by former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee while creating three States during the NDA regime, the bifurcation could have been achieved without creating fissures in society.
Observing that the Women’s Reservation Bill and Lokpal Bill were yet to be passed, he wondered if the Bill on Telangana would meet the same fate.
He refuted the fact that the BJP had softened its stand on Telangana in the wake of Mr. Naidu’s meeting with BJP leaders and said, “Don’t believe everything that is printed in newspapers.” BJP is committed to the creation of Telangana State but the motives of the Congress are suspect as it wants to benefit in both the regions by declaring creation of Telangana here and not delivering to gain in Seemandhra. They will end up losing badly in both the regions, he added.
Mr. Javadekar said Congress was in complete disarray as its own MPs had given notice for no-confidence motion against the government and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had rebelled. Yet, no action was taken against them. While reiterating the BJP’s commitment to Telangana, he said the concerns of Seemandhra people must be addressed.
He denied that any discussion had taken place on pre-poll alliance with TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu.
