District Congress committee leaders have flayed promises by the Karimnagar town-unit leaders of the TRS that they would provide 24-hour water supply to the people if elected to power in the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar.

The Congress’ Karimnagar Assembly segment in-charge Chalmeda Laxminarasimha Rao, town president Kanna Krishna, former Mayor D. Shankar, urban bank chairman Karra Rajeshekhar and others told reporters that the TRS promise was unfeasible and was aimed only at cheating the people. The Congress leaders, however, said they would ensure daily water supply at stipulated timings if elected to power.

“The people of Karimnagar town did not ask for 24-hour water supply, as it would be a burden to them with the fixation of meters,” they said, adding that the people only wanted assured daily water at no extra cost. The Congress leaders also promised to take up development of the town.

Refuting reports that he would join another political party, Mr. Laxminarasimha Rao said they had been circulated to tarnish his political image. He clarified that he had always been associated with the Congress, and there was no question of him quiting the party. He said he was ready to contest from the Karimnagar Assembly segment if the party instructs him to do so.
