The Congress party Nellore district unit organised a demonstration and swept streets at Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu’s house here on Wednesday in protest against the denial of the special status to the State.

The Congress leaders and cadres went in a rally from the Current Office Centre and garlanded the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel before launching the protest programme.

Speaking on the occasion, District Congress Committee president Panabaka Krishnaiah said that it was unfortunate that the Centre and the State governments did not bother to make any efforts for giving special status in the past two years regardless of the fact that the Opposition Congress leaders had staged protests several times. Congress Coordination Committee convener C.V. Sesha Reddy said that Mr. Venkaiah Naidu had argued in Parliament for the cause of getting special status for 10 years but now there was no effort from him to get justice to people on the issue.

In Vizianagaram, the DCC continued its protest by sweeping the road in front of Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s bungalow at Cantonment on Wednesday demanding special status. Yedla Adi Raju, DCC president, and others participated.
