We will stall proceedings in Parliament, says Rayalaseema MP
The Seemandhra Congress MPs appear to be unrelenting on their stand to mount pressure on the party leadership against bifurcation of the State without adequately addressing all the concerns of the region.
The Seemandhra MPs met at the residence of Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao in New Delhi this evening and resolved to continue their protests in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Friday. The decision assumes significance in the backdrop of a motion for suspension of 11 MPs, including seven of the ruling party moved in the Lok Sabha, pending a decision by Speaker Meira Kumar.“We will stall the proceedings of both the Houses on Friday irrespective of the resolution on suspension pending with the Chair,” an MP from Rayalaseema said. The Congress drew flak from within the party and the Opposition for its decision to suspend the MPs from the proceedings.
The MPs were not willing to budge from their stand until the party leadership took some initiative, duly keeping the decision on separate Telangana in abeyance. ‘”Any forward movement on the stalemate will happen only if the leadership keeps its decision in abeyance,” was how an MP reacted. They were not enthused with Union Minister Kamal Nath’s claim in the House that the party had no objection to constitute an all party committee as the statement lacked clarity. “Will the party help in smooth conduct of the proceedings or will it address concerns of agitating people?” an MP asked.
