Congress leaders from Telangana region have begun efforts to launch a front to take forward their fight for statehood, if the Centre fails to respond to their demand before the end of the winter session of Parliament.

Talk of forming a front gained momentum on Wednesday after former Rajya Sabha member K. Keshava Rao held a series of meetings at his residence. He met Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy and former Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to discuss the developments.

Mr. Venkat Reddy had hinted in Nalgonda that he had already discussed the modalities with Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Mr. Jana Reddy also. Taking the issue forward, Dr. Rao drove to the residence of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to discuss the issue. Emerging from the meeting, Dr. Rao denied reports that leaders were planning to form a front. “There is no such proposal. We want all like minded parties to join hands,” he said.

However, sources said Dr. Rao sought his cooperation to launch the front. They discussed the speculation that Komatireddy brothers would switch their loyalties to YSR Congress.

The TRS president is said to have remarked that if the two brothers joined the YSR Congress, they would be treated as betrayers. The two leaders reportedly expressed concern that YSR Congress was getting some foothold in the region.

Dr. Rao also met the PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana and briefed him about the meeting of MPs on Tuesday night and his interaction with Mr. Jana Reddy and Mr. Venkat Reddy.

The PCC president, in turn, advised the MPs not to take hasty decision during voting in Parliament.

Demonstration

Meanwhile, before leaving for New Delhi, some Congress MPs met Mr. Jana Reddy at his residence. As per the programme, they would hold demonstration at the main entrance of Lok Sabha to highlight their demand.
