Congress MPs from Telangana meet Manmohan

A delegation of Congress Members of Parliament from Telangana met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday to seek national project status for Pranahita Chevella irrigation project as it was a boon for the region.

In a memorandum, G. Sukhender Reddy (Nalgonda), G. Vivekananda (Peddapalli), K.Rajagopal Reddy (Bhongir), Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar) and M. Jagannath (Nagarkurnool) — said the national project status would benefit seven districts in the region with a total ayacut of 16.40 lakh acres.

Total cost

The total cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 40,300 crores, they noted.

They said the preliminary report of the Pranahita-Chevella, which envisages diversion of 160 tmcft water from Pranahita river, had got consent from the Central Water Commission.

‘Expedite process'

The members urged the Prime Minister to expedite the process of declaring it a national project.
