YSR Congress party leader Sharmila entered Visakhapatnam district, at Gannavaram Metta under Narsipatnam Assembly segment as part of her ‘Maro Prajaprasthanam Padayatra,’ around 5 p.m. on Monday.

It was 189th day of her padayatra and she completed 2,500 km at Kakarapalli in East Godavari on Sunday.

Ms. Sharmila unveiled a statue of her father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Gannavaram Metta and addressed a public meeting. She later walked to Sarabhavaram, two km away for night halt.

Former Minister and till recently Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Dadi Veerabhadhra Rao was among those who received her at Gannavaram Metta. Another senior leader Konathala Ramakrisha informed Ms. Sharmila over telephone that he would join her yatra on June 27 as he was preoccupied with obsequies of his brother-in-law.

District convenor and MLA G. Babu Rao, city convenor Vamsikrishna, senior leader M.V. Mysoora Reddy, party’s women wing convenor K. Nirmala Kumari, spokesperson Vasireddy Padma, convenors of all Assembly segments, and a large number of party workers were present.

Ms. Sharmila said the Kiran Kumar Reddy government was providing sitting rooms for consumption of alcohol when women in rural areas were seeking toilets and the Congress party which swears by Gandhian ideology and principles made a liquor don as president of APCC. TDP president Chandrababu Naidu would seek fall of Congress government outside the Assembly but would not support a no-confidence motion against the Government and during his padayatra sought only reduction in the price of liquor but not a ban on it.

Ms. Sharmila said her brother Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy would come out of jail soon and bring back all the schemes and programmes Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy initiated for the welfare of people.
