Congress goes all out to bag Warangal ZP

May 20, 2014 10:50 pm | Updated 10:50 pm IST - WARANGAL:

The district leadership of the Congress seems to be trying to save its face by cornering the Zilla Parishad chairperson post and began its moves.

While the TRS leaders and cadre are busy celebrating their victory and waiting for the government to be formed, the beleaguered Congress under stewardship of TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah held a meeting at Hyderabad to discuss about the ways and means of bagging the post.

Party wise – of the total 50 ZPTCs in the district, the Congress won 24, TRS 18, TDP 06, BJP and independent one each.

A party has to get 26 to secure the coveted post which was reserved for SC woman this time.

However, four of the Congress ZPTCs are strong followers of D Madhava Reddy who defied party and contested to Narasampet assembly independently.

He won the seat and now poses challenge to the Congress leadership.

His followers may not support the Congress party in Zilla Parishad chairperson elections.

Though their support may not help TRS too to corner the post, it is said that both the TDP and BJP may stay away from election which would help the TRS to get majority of ZPTCs on the floor at the time of election.

According to sources, already the Congress ZPTCs left for a camp while Madhava Reddy followers are stayed away.

A senior Congress leader disclosed that Mr Madhava Reddy was ready to extend help to Congress.

“Since TRS is forming government, it is better if they have the ZP chairperson post too. It would help bring more funds to district for development,” he pointed out.
