Overwhelming anger among the people for dividing the State, betrayal of the then Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and strong anti-incumbency factor against the Congress are some of the reasons cited by APCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy in his report to the AICC.
A report compiled by the APCC after the one-day brain storming session in Vijayawada and the action plan chalked out for the next three months gives an insight into how the Congress lost miserably in the recent general elections in Seemandhra failing to win even a single Assembly and Parliamentary seat. The first and foremost reason refers to how there was strong anti-incumbency factor against the Congress Government coupled with rise in the prices of essential commodities.
The report squarely blames Kiran Kumar Reddy’s open defiance and egging the employees, students, educated sections to agitate against the high command’s decision as another reason. The report sought to know why no action was initiated against him.
The manner in which the State was divided and certain remarks made by the AICC leaders during the process of bifurcation also hurt the feelings of the people of Seemandhra, the report said adding that Congress was made to pay a heavy price for the decision.
Failure to bring an alternative Government after the resignation of Kiran Kumar Reddy and imposition of President’s rule also marred the party’s chances. The YSR Congress was able to make the people believe that welfare schemes were the gift of his father and not the Congress party.
The report said party failed to field candidates during the local bodies’ polls.
