They walked in pretending to be astrologers, made away with ₹6 lakh from an elderly couple, but they were stopped in their tracks by the Guntur Urban Police.

Rama Subbaiah and Lakshman Raju decided to earn quick money by cheating gullible persons. On September 9, they entered a house in Brodiepet owned by P.V.V.S.V. Prasad and Jayalakshmi on the pretext of locating a house. After claiming they were astrologers, they told the couple that they needed to do some pooja by installing three golden idols to get rid of some evil spirits in the house and collected ₹6 lakh from them.

On September 12, the couple called up the duo but were shocked when the latter demanded ₹35 lakh.

The couple then approached the police. The Arundelpet police along with QRT teams tracked the calls and arrested them on September 18 and recovered ₹6 lakh from them.

It was found that Lakshman Raju was running an astrology centre near the bus stand and was looking to set up another one.

After meeting the elderly couple, they decided to cheat them.
