Prakasam District Collector and District Election Officer G.S.R.K.R. Vijaykumar on Tuesday denied irregularities in the election of sitting Chirala MLA and Navodaya Party leader Amanchi Krishnamohan as alleged by TDP candidate Pothula Sunitha and YSRC nominee Yadam Balaji.
In Chirala, TDP activists in large numbers had rushed to the college, where spare Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were kept, and tried to obstruct the poll officials from moving them to the district headquarters.
The Collector said: “The election has been conducted in a most transparent manner, and there was no scope for any irregularities. Once the results are declared by the Returning Officer concerned, any dissatisfied contestant can move the appropriate court. Both used and unused EVMs are kept separately and safely in the Agriculture Market Yard premises.”
Ms. Sunitha had alleged foul play during the transport of EVMs to the counting centre. The number of EVMs given to polling agents soon after the polling differed from that given at the time of counting, she had contended.
YSRC nominee Yadam Balaji had also raised objections over the conduct of the election in the constituency.
