An eight-member editorial board has prepared a draft Amaravati Declaration, which touched upon various issues ranging from women education and health, balanced diet, women in industrial sector, research and politics.

Changes are being made to ensure that no controversies arise out of the declaration, according to Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.

Addressing a press conference at the Assembly on Friday, Dr. Rao said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would release the Amaravati Declaration shortly.

The declaration was aimed at women empowerment in all spheres of life. The draft declaration was thoroughly discussed by 10 eminent personalities on 10 issues. Minute issues pertaining to women, students, and girls also came up for discussion. Single women, pregnant women, facilities being provided to the girl students in schools, awareness on employment facilities, self-defence, and poverty among rural and urban women were discussed, he said.

Dr. Rao said the declaration was the sum and substance of issues that were discussed at the National Women’s Parliament (NWP) attended by delegates from the USA, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and other countries.

Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad, Principal Secretary (Roads and Buildings) Sumita Dawra, Principal Secretary (Home) Anuradha, Edowments Commissioner Anuradha, and Secretary (Planning) Sanjay Gutpa were present.

It may recalled that 12,000 students and 14 eminent personalities from various fields attended the NWP conducted in Amaravati in February. The NWP was supposed to adopt the ‘Amaravati Declaration for Women Empowerment’ on the last day of the three-day conference. The State government entered into an MoU with women from the UN for compiling and processing the proceedings and discussions. The NWP, however, did not adopt the declaration on the last day.
