Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should take a cue from Statesman Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu who was at the helm when Andhra State was carved out of the composite Madras State.
Articulating this view, Prakasam Pantulu’s grandson T. Gopalakrishna said the situation in navya Andhra was very similar to the one prevailing when Andhra Kesari was the first Chief Minister operating from a makeshift capital in Kurnool in 1953 before Visalandhra was formed in 1956 by merging the Telugu-speaking parts of Hyderabad state in 1956.
Mr. Naidu should study how Prakasam Pantulu, who had steered Andhra state out of the woods without losing heart when India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had turned down the Andhra’s plea for liberal Central assistance on the ground that the Centre too was in a dire financial position soon after Independence, he said.
