On the concluding day of his two-day visit to Singapore on Tuesday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sought Singapore’s help in making rivers and canals in the State beautiful and clean, besides replicating waste-to-energy technology.
During his visit to Bishan Park and Tao Payoh Town, the officials explained to the Chief Minister how a drain was made into a river and that they have an Active Beautiful Clean (ABC) water policy. He was informed that property prices shot up in the area.
The Chief Minister enquired if the officials could offer their expertise in making AP’s canals and rivers ‘Active Beautiful and Clean’. He instructed Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and Secretary A. Giridhar to coordinate with officials and work out a plan to implement ABC policy in Andhra Pradesh’s towns. During his visit, the Chief Minister was informed that a huge volunteer network – close to 3,000 people – and MPs too work to take care of Singapore’s parks.
The park officer informed the Chief Minister that people were continuously consulted for value-addition, saying “there’s no park better than a people’s park.” Mr. Naidu and other members of the AP delegation paid a visit to the 'Waste to Energy' Technology Facility, Keppel located in Tuas.
The CEO of the industrial facility gave a presentation on their operation and said the company generates 54 MW of power.
Seeking to replicate Keppel’s model in Andhra Pradesh, he directed Mr. Giridhar to stay in touch with the plant officials to get inputs on the industrial model.
Keppel is an industrial facility that provides technologies for the treatment of municipal solid waste and sludge. Its Waste-To-Energy (WTE) plants utilise advanced technology solutions to produce green energy from waste.
