Clouds slowly clear over R-Telangana proposal

August 06, 2013 02:52 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:54 pm IST - KURNOOL:

The clouds have been clearing over the stand of leaders of Kurnool district over the division of the State.

The leaders have been coming out openly one after the other in favour of Rayala-Telengana. Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy and MP SPY Reddy set the tone by representing to AICC observer Digvijay Singh to consider Kurnool district into Telengana State. He is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday and make a formal representation for inclusion into Telengana.

According to indications, most of the MLAs preferred joining the Telengana region and gave their consent privately for the new entity. Going by such indications, water issue, joining the Reddy land and continuing links with Hyderabad have motivated the leaders’ decision. YSRC leaders were opposed to Rayala-Telengana concept and threatened to launch a stir. Farmers’ leader Bojja Dasaratha Rami Reddy said that they would not allow the leaders into the district who supported Telangana.

Meanwhile, former PRP leader D. Vishnuvardhan Reddy and his supporters planned a demonstration in support of Rayala-Telengana preferring inclusion of Anantapur and Kurnool districts. Mr. Reddy, who is in judicial custody in a SC, ST Atrocities case, is likely to carry out a long movement for Rayala-Telengana. His supporters met him here on Monday and planned to bring out a pamphlet in support of Rayala-Telengana which would be the first public announcement.

T.G. Venkatesh and a few other leaders, who are also strong votaries of Rayala-Telengana, are likely to come out with their decision soon.
