High performance computing and cloud computing are important technology meeting the present day requirements, Head of CSE in MSRIT, Bangalore, K.G. Srinivasa said on Friday.
Delivering a lecture on “cloud computing to Internet of things” in a three-day national workshop on “Cloud Computing in Academics and Research” in JNTU College of Engineering at Pulivendula, Dr. Srinivasa explained about motivation of cloud computing, architecture of parallel computers, programming paradigms like MPI, OPENMP, CUDA, distributed cloud computing system, clusters and grid clouds and sample applications for cloud computing and the hardware and software components of cloud computing.
Delivering a lecture on ‘open source tools for cloud computing’, associate professor of MSRIT, Bangalore, G. M. Siddesh, spoke about open cloud solutions and their usage of tools like open stack, open Nebula, Azure, Google App Engine and some cloud simulators like cloud sim and cloud analyst.
Ananda Rao, Director (IR and Placements) in JNTU, Anantapur, who inaugurated the workshop, exhorted students to learn cloud computing and remarked that CSE students have innovative thoughts compared to those of other engineering streams. In computer science, cloud computing was akin to outsourcing of computer services and describes users renting or borrowing online software instead of actually purchasing and installing it in their computers.
It was a business model like people using Gmail or Yahoo mail services, but cloud computing goes a bit further.
It is using web application and/or server services that you pay to access rather than buy and install software or hardware. The idea behind cloud computing was that the user can simply use storage, computing power or specially crafted development environments, without having to worry how they work internally. The workshop also explained the security issues and described solutions to personal configuration settings.
