Three passengers were injured while 45 others escaped unhurt when a Vijayawada-bound private bus from Anantapur overturned at the Mynampadu crossroads within Santhanuthalapadu police station limits in Prakasam district on Sunday.

The injured were rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ongole for treatment, said S.N. Padu Sub-Inspector Kishore.

He led a team of police personnel, who, along with the bus driver and cleaner, pulled out the passengers from the bus which fell on its side after hitting an electric pole.

The mishap occurred when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a lorry coming from the opposite direction, Ongole Rural Circle Inspector M. Muralikrishna said.
