Asserting that a new era is about to begin in the country, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the people vexed with the “corrupt” rule of the Congress gave a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance coalition at the Centre.
Mr. Naidu said the confidence levels among the people were on the rise after the BJP announced Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate as Mr. Modi had a proven track record of development. “The people gave a clear mandate against corruption by defeating the Congress Government at the Centre,” he said.
Mr. Naidu addressed a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday evening. The TDP president who went to New Delhi to participate in the meeting of the Parliamentary party leaders of the NDA coalition parties spent a busy day meeting senior leaders of the BJP including L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley besides Mr. Modi.
He attributed the irresponsible manner in which the Congress went ahead with bifurcation of the State as one of the main reasons for the worst ever drubbing it had suffered at the hustings. While there were several aspects that ought to be considered before dividing the State, the Congress unilaterally went ahead with bifurcation without consulting anyone with an eye on electoral gains. “There is no clarity on the finances and expenditure of Seemandhra region. Even senior leaders like me were not consulted before dividing the State,” he said.
The Congress paid a heavy price for its decision which left the people in the lurch and this was evident from the fact that the party could not secure a single seat in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly or the Lok Sabha elections held in the Seemandhra region. “So pathetic was the Congress show that over 150 contestants forfeited their deposits,” he said.
The TDP, on its part, had prepared a comprehensive roadmap for accelerated development of the new State. “I have a complete blue print of the development. It is matter of time before the execution of the plans start,” he said. The TDP was committed to fulfil all the promises it made to the people. The promises were not made with an eye on the elections, but they were rather based on the first hand information obtained during the marathon padayatra. “There should not be an iota of doubt about our commitment to implement the promises we made,” he said.
