A barbaric incident of a school teacher allegedly forcing a six-year-old student of Class I to drink urine as punishment for indulging in some mischief led to angry protests by the boy’s parents and others at Anaparti, 30 km from here in East Godavari district here on Thursday.

The student, and three of his class mates at Satyabhama Public School, reportedly urinated in a tumbler and kept it in a corner of their class-room on Wednesday. When other students reported it to the teacher, Gummadi Satya Gowri, she summoned the four students and reprimanded them.

When the three classmates put the blame on him, the teacher ordered him to drink the urine in front of the entire class, according to the police complaint lodged by the traumatised father.

Circle Inspector K. Naga Mohan Reddy said the incident took place on Wednesday but the boy’s parents learnt of the incident when their son refused to go to school on Thursday. When coaxed about the reasons for his reluctance to attend school, he narrated the humiliating incident.

The boy’s parents and relatives immediately rushed to the school and confronted the management. Getting no response, they lodged a complaint with the police against the teacher and demanded her arrest. While the accused teacher is at large, the police questioned correspondent Malladi Anantha Satyanarayana Reddy.

District Collector Neetu Kumari said an inquiry would be ordered by the District Educational Officer. If the teacher was found guilty, a criminal case would be registered and if necessary, the school would be derecognised, she added.

Meanwhile the State Human Rights Commission responded immediately to a petition filed by the AP Balala Hakkula Sangham against the brutality of the teacher and ordered an inquiry on Thursday.
