Wondering why the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues were issuing contradictory statements over the allocation of funds for the works pertaining to ‘Godavari Pushkarams’, Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday sought clarification from the government over the funds earmarked for the event.

Mr. Jagan, who was here to attend a private function, had a brief interaction with the media. “There is a mismatch between statements of the Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers, who are citing different figures from Rs. 200 crore to Rs. 1,400 crore for the works meant for the Pushkarams. However, the actual allocation so far is a mere Rs. 86 crore,” he said.

Finding fault with the government for undertaking the works only in the last-minute, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that the move was intended to benefit the contractors those were loyal to the ruling party. “The works are being allocated on nomination basis, and there is no proper monitoring system in place,” he said. Opposing the government’s move of evacuating the hutments from Kotilingala ghat to facilitate the expansion of gha, Mr. Jagan said all the residents possessed documents such as ration cards and Aadhar numbers and the evacuation was against the law.
