The district administration is making elaborate security arrangements for the Chitrapournami festival at the Mangaladevi temple inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve on May 4.

Idukki Collector V. Ratheesan has said that no publicity materials will be allowed inside the forest. Loudspeakers, power generators, and any other equipment creating disturbance to the wildlife will not be allowed. Plastic bottles are banned and devotees will not be allowed to stay at night inside the forest. No idols will be allowed to be brought to the temple. There will be three police check-points on way to the temple.

The Collector said the police will lead the security arrangements in association with the TN Police. The arrangements are being made jointly by the Idukki and Theni district administrations. Additional District Magistrate V.R. Mohanan Pillai has reviewed the arrangements with Theni Collector N. Venkitachalam.
