Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s planned re-entry into films is likely to be delayed inordinately owing to script problems and his preoccupancy with political matters of the PRP.
On one hand, Mr. Chiranjeevi is unable to find the “right script” for his 150th film and on the other, the fast-changing political situation in Andhra Pradesh is leaving him no time to shift focus from his Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) affairs.
It was on September 8 last year that the actor-turned-politician announced his decision to make a comeback to tinsel town, “in deference to the wishes of my fans”, and play the lead in a film to be produced by his actor-son Ramcharan Tej.
On November 1 last year, he hinted that shooting of his latest film would begin in February 2011.
But, neither Mr. Chiranjeevi nor his production team could find the right script for the film that is supposed to be loaded with a “social message” keeping in sync with his new-found status as a political leader.
“It is unlike in the past when any commercial pot-boiler would have worked with him. Now that he is a politician and an elected people’s representative, Mr. Chiranjeevi should be doing only a message-oriented film. Hence, he is very particular about the script,” Mr. Chiranjeevi’s close aide said.
While the lack of a good script has become an impediment in launching the film as announced, the rapid political developments in the State - and also within the PRP- have kept Mr. Chiranjeevi preoccupied, requiring his full attention only to political affairs.
Initially, Mr. Chiranjeevi - a member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from temple-town Tirupati - planned to devote 20 days a month to politics and the rest to films but that plan never really worked.
