Chiranjeevi calls on Sonia Gandhi, RS seat likely

President of the Erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party and Tirupati MLA Chiranjeevi met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here on Wednesday and discussed the political situation in Andhra Pradesh, including the Telangana imbroglio.

At a meeting that lasted about 40 minutes, it is understood that among other things, it was also his first meeting with her after the Praja Rajyam Party's merger with the Congress in August last and after her return from the United States.

Mr. Chiranjeevi was accompanied by MLC C. Ramachandraiah.

It is understood that the Congress president promised to take the actor-turned politician into the All India Congress Committee. He is likely to be made a Rajya Sabha member in March when there will be a vacancy and then considered for a place in the Union Cabinet.

Mr. Chiranjeevi also called on Ms. Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel.
