Chirala Rama Rao dead

Chirala Rama Rao (90), a former journalist with The Hindu , passed away at his residence at Maddilapalem here in the early hours of Monday.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters. He worked in M & S.M. Railway at Guntakal between 1945 and 1951, was Commercial Inspector in the Chirala Municipal High School from 1953 to 1955 and took up other assignments before becoming a part-time correspondent of The Hindu and the Andhra Patrika from 1970-74.

He became a Staff Reporter of The Hindu and served in Visakhapatnam from 1975 to 1988. Later, he served as a part-time correspondent of the paper at Chirala from 1988 to 2006.

Mr. Rao had also served as the Municipal Councillor of Chirala from 1959 to 1964, and was honorary Vice-Presiding Bench Magistrate, Chirala, from 1969 to 1973. The AP Working Journalists’ Federation condoled his death.
