The Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs staged a flash dharna in front of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s chambers in the Assembly demanding that the Government permit the proposed ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest on June 14.
The TRS legislators who held discussions with Agriculture and Revenue Ministers on the neglect meted out to Telangana farmers in provision of input subsidy rushed to the Chief Minister’s chambers and staged a noisy protest. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was irked by the protest as he had to wade through the squatting MLAs to enter the House and come back after it was adjourned.
In the process, the Chief Minister lost his cool and asked the TRS MLAs to “stop their drama” and come for discussion in his chambers.
TRS MLAs later criticised the Chief Minister for remaining adamant on his stand of not permitting the rally.
The decision was corroborated by Minister J. Geetha Reddy, who had been entrusted the Home Department issues in the Assembly, when she ruled out scope for permitting the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme as it could lead to law and order issues.
The TRS legislature party, however, remained unrelenting on its resolve to take out the rally.
A reminder
Party MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that the rally was not meant for laying siege to the Assembly but to remind the Congress Government about its December 9, 2009 announcement.
Mr. Srinivas Reddy wanted the the Government to put a halt to the preventive arrests and binding over of the TJAC leaders and activists as they could lead to law and order problems.
Comparison unfair, say student JACs
Meanwhile, the Osmania University Joint Action Committee and the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee in an open letter to the Chief Minister took exception to his alleged comment about comparing the Telangana struggle with the Maoist movement.
OUJAC and TSJAC members wanted the Chief Minister and the Congress to make it clear whether the Telangana struggle was being taken up in a constitutional and democratic manner or not.
