Chidambaram hopes for Telangana meeting in January

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram expressed the hope on Wednesday that the Centre could convene an all-party meeting to discuss the Telangana issue if the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and the YSR Congress conveyed their stand by December-end or early January.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had already taken their stand, he told journalists here.

“We expect that the remaining four political parties, including the Congress, will be able to make up their mind, say before the end of December, to enable me to call a meeting of all Andhra Pradesh parties as early as possible…I am confident that they will make up their mind by December,” he said.

If the Centre got their views, it could convene the meeting by December-end or in January. “I sincerely hope so. Two meetings were held on 5th of January, 2010, and 6th of January, 2011. January looks like a good month...”
