District Collector V. Anil Kumar directed the officials on Saturday to check illegal transport of sand and seize the sand and vehicles transporting them.
Reviewing the use of sand for government works at a meeting in his chambers, he instructed them that the seized sand should be handed over to stipulated government orders in accordance with the government orders. Sand-quarrying was permitted only in Gandikota project and Somasila submersible areas in the district, Telugu Ganga SE and Nodal Officer of the Sand Committee Venkataramana told the Collector. Velugupalle in Somasila submersible area was identified for permitting sand-lifting, but forest officials were raising objections as it comes under forest area, the SE said. The Collector promised to discuss with forest officials concerned. He told Managing Director of Housing to give clear orders on issue of ration coupons by Tahsildars to Indiramma housing beneficiaries. He sought expeditious orders as beneficiaries were finding it difficult to procure sand.
Transco DE told the Collector that sand was required for the electric poles manufacturing units at Siddhavatam and Kamalapuram. Mr. Anil Kumar directed the SE to arrange supply of sand to Transco on payment of money. When the DE sought permission for sand transport for Transco divisional offices at Rajampet and Kodur, the Collector said sand could be taken from the foreshore of Annamayya project at Rajampet.
