Vasireddy Chandrabala who was named by the YSR Congress Party in its statement for reportedly making several calls to CBI Joint Director V. V. Lakshminarayana in connection with the case against Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) here on Friday seeking a direction to restrain Sakshi TV from airing news pertaining to her.
Based on a petition filed by Ms. Chandrabala, the SHRC directed the City Police Commissioner to enquire and submit a report before July 2. She said that telecast of objectionable news by the television channel had caused damage to her personal reputation.
Sets record straight
The YSR Congress Party on Thursday staged a dharna on Assembly premises alleging a ‘big conspiracy’ to harm their leader Jaganmohan Reddy. To buttress their claim, the newly elected MLAs made public a list of phone calls made and received by the CBI Joint Director to a section of the media and also Ms. Chandrabala.
Appearing on a television channel, Ms. Chandrabala claimed that she knew Mr. Lakshminarayana as they both had studied in the same institution. She clarified that as an activist of Lead India movement, she used to make telephone calls to the police officer.
‘Irresponsible action’
Meanwhile, the AP Union of Working Journalists decried what it called ‘irresponsible’ action of the YSR Congress Party in making public the list of calls made by the CBI official to journalists. “As part of news gathering, journalists not only make calls to politicians and even underground cadres of the banned outfits, the APUWJ said in a statement.
The union faulted Sakshi TV and Sakshi newspaper for making public the names of journalists along with their telephone numbers. Such actions caused agony to the journalists and pushed them into further threat during their professional work.
