No farmer even in advanced countries can earn such income using most modern technology, says TD chief

Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday ridiculed Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s claim that green house farming could fetch Rs. One crore from an acre each and sought an inquiry by the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax departments into it.

Responding to questions at a press conference, Mr. Naidu said no farmer even in advanced countries like US and Australia could earn such income using most modern technology and wondered if the entire exercise taken up by Mr. Rao was to turn black money into white.

Mr. Rao was only deceiving and misleading farmers, he said while asserting that his claims of income were impossible.

Sees key role for TD

To another question, Mr. Naidu said his party would play a key role in the next 100 days when the discredited “worst ever” UPA government would be defeated.

Expressing surprise at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s claims at a press conference today, Mr. Naidu said Dr. Singh’s almost 10-year rule was marked by scams like Coalgate, 2G spectrum and Commonwealth Games, corruption and inefficiency. The only thing that grew at a fast rate was corruption and Dr. Singh had no answer. It was under pressure from social activist Anna Hazare that the Union government passed the Lokpal Bill.

On Kejriwal

Asked to comment on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s decisions on 700 litres daily supply of water and slashing of electricity charges, Mr. Naidu claimed that his government had done this in the past. The power sector reforms he had brought about were meant for passing on such benefits to people.
