Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the Congress Government at Centre has once again showed that it was more concerned about votes and getting political mileage than the concerns of the Telugus.
Reacting to the Union Cabinet’s approval to creation of Telangana, Mr. Naidu said the Centre’s action smacked of immorality as it went about dividing people without making any effort to bring the joint action committees, civil society groups and stake holders to the discussion table to understand and address their concerns.
The method it adopted to come to a decision was despicable to the extent that people would lose faith in political parties and consequently democracy, he said. It showed least concern for people who have hit the road for the last 65 days. The Congress looked at it merely from political prism and nothing else as indicated by the AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s comment that TRS would merge into Congress and that YSRCP shared the same DNA as the Congress. He went on to question Congress right to take a decision on a sensitive issue when elections were just four to five months away and there was no guarantee of its return.
He said it was surprising that YSRCP leader, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy now enacting a drama after firmly telling the Centre that it can go ahead with bifurcation in accordance with Article 3 of the Constitution. Mr. Jagan never spoke a word against AICC president, Sonia Gandhi though she was primarily responsible for landing the State in a mess. Mr. Jagan remained silent as he had struck a deal with the Congress for his bail and instead kept targeting TDP. Mr. Naidu said the party would review the situation and take a decision on teaching a lesson to Congress for adopting a divide and rule policy.
