Centre to look into Eamcet counselling issue

All-party delegation, led by Ganta, meets Rajnath Singh. The Telangana government’s decision was against Article 371(D), Presidential Order and six-point formula to facilitate common admissions and also against Article 15 of the Constitution.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has directed the Union Home Secretary to look into representation made by Andhra Pradesh Ministers and MPs of YSR Congress over the impasse created by the Telangana Government in commencing Eamcet counselling.

An all-party delegation comprising HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Social Welfare Minister R. Kishore Babu and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas and YSRC MPs B. Renuka and Avinash Reddy met the Union Home Minister at Delhi on Wednesday, HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Rural Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

The AP Ministers explained to the Union Ministers that the Eamcet counselling was being delayed as the Telangana government decided to fix 1956 as the cut-off date to determine local status of the candidates and it would go against the para 95 of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act to continue the existing admission process for the next 10 years in accordance with Article 371 (D).

The Telangana government’s decision was against Article 371(D), Presidential Order and six-point formula to facilitate common admissions and also against Article 15 of the Constitution. The delegation sought Centre’s intervention in commencing the Eamcet counselling without further delay as future of lakhs of students was at stake.

Sources said that the Centre was positive to the State’s representation and a decision was expected in a couple of days. Meanwhile the State Government would go ahead with the notification and send the file to the Telangana Government for its concurrence for the joint admission process and await its response. The case on Eamcet counselling would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court on August 4 and several professional associations are also impleading in the case against violation of the AP Reorganisation Act .
