Tributes paid to Durgabai Deshmukh and other freedom fighters

Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya has said that the Central government has been paying special attention to Andhra Pradesh and cited as examples the allocation of Rs.1.70 lakh crore in the 14 Finance Commission and Rs.1,000 crore under National Disaster Assistance Fund last year.

ESI hospitals

Paying rich tributes to Durgabai Deshmukh and other women freedom fighters here after participating in the ‘Tiranga Yatra’, Mr. Dattatreya said that his Ministry would construct ESI hospitals in Vizianagaram, Paidibhimavaram, Vijayawada, Tirupati, and Adoni, besides developing the hospital in the city.

“The Centre is also ready to construct a 500-bed ESI hospital in Visakhapatnam at an estimated cost of Rs.1,500 crore,” the Union Minister said, and added that the government earmarked Rs.3,000 crore for construction of new ESI hospitals and reconstruction and development of the old ones.

Mr. Dattatreya said that the Centre sanctioned a 4,000 MW solar power project in Kadapa keeping in view the power needs of the Rayalaseema region.

It also sanctioned AIMS in Mangalagiri. “By 2020, all workers in the organised sector will be provided housing,” he said.

Polavaram project

Stating that the Centre was committed to fulfilling all its promises to the State, Mr. Dattatreya said that the Polavaram project would be taken up on a priority basis.

Call to women

The Union Minister called upon young women to draw inspiration from Durgabai Deshmukh and fight against social evils.

Member of Legislative Council Somu Veerraju and others spoke on the occasion.

The Tiranga Yatra was taken out from Swami Vivekananda statue at Kambala Tank to Freedom Park near Kotipalli bus stand.
