Centre mulls over second SRC

July 29, 2013 12:43 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:50 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Amid reports that the Bill for creating Telangana might be introduced in Parliament, informed sources said the government was also considering setting up the second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) to look into demands for creation of new States, including Gorkhaland and Bodoland.

The sources said the Congress and the government were worried that there could be a series of demands from other regions if the Telangana demand was accepted. To tackle such issues in the coming election year and to buy peace for at least 2-3 years, the idea of an SRC is being discussed. The sources referred to the peace maintained in Andhra Pradesh by various sections when the Justice B.N. Srikrishna committee was considering the Telangana demand.
