The survey for fixing the boundary line of leased area of Periyar dam is expected to be completed by April 7, said Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General of India.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, he said survey teams had been examining the entire area since March 22. Additional survey teams would be brought from Bengaluru to complete the work within stipulated time.
Earlier, Mr. Subba Rao and P.S. Somashekar, Inspector-General of Forests, along with Ministry of Environment and Forests Advocate Sangamithra inspected the site at Anavaachan chosen by Kerala Forests for the mega car park and discussed the issue with both Kerala and Tamil Nadu officials.
While Kerala argued that the site was far off from the leased area, Tamil Nadu officials maintained that the zone was within the water spread area.
When Kerala Forests authorities claimed that a water treatment plant would be established, Tamil Nadu officials stated that it should be done by the Kumuli Municipality and that too outside leased area.
When contacted, Cauvery Tribunal Cell Chief Engineer M. Selva Raju said Tamil Nadu wanted the boundary line of leased area fixed. Once the boundary line is fixed, Kerala cannot challenge it because it cannot undertake any activity within the leased area as per the lease agreement.
